What We Do

Today, despite major advances in medical care over the past few decades, there are still a large number of acute diseases or conditions in which patient outcomes could be improved or even cured if there was an effective way to overcome limitations of systemic drug delivery, which most commonly is the inability to get high enough sustained drug concentrations at the injury site without causing unwanted side effects in other parts of the body. This shortcoming continues to cause death, disability, increased hospital costs and increased cost to societies around the world.

Edge is overcoming systemic limitations by delivering protective medications directly to the site of injury via its proprietary, sustained release microparticle drug delivery system. Edge believes that site-specific, sustained release delivery of medicine directly to the site of primary injury would prevent certain delayed complications, which would significantly reduce both direct and indirect healthcare costs.

Edge has three hospital products with six different applications, all locally delivering known active agents with its microparticle platform technology. EG-1962 (nimodipine microparticles), Edge’s lead product, will be entering clinical trials in 2012. All Edge products target patient populations that are already under the care of doctors at major urban hospitals, affording easy coverage with a small (<50 reps) specialty sales force.
