EG-1964

EG-1964 is a first-in-class product designed to prevent recurrent chronic subdural hematoma (SDH). EG-1964 is composed of the FDA-approved pharmacological active agent formulated utilizing our proprietary microparticle formulation technology.   Chronic SDH is a blood clot that develops on the surface of the brain, often in elderly people. Chronic SDH takes several weeks to develop and is often precipitated by minor head trauma though there is no known history of trauma in 50% of patients. The blood clot slowly expands until the person develops symptoms from it. The diagnosis is then made and a neurosurgeon treats the patient by drilling a hole in the skull over the blood clot and draining the blood out. The main complication of the procedure is failure of it to work, which happens in 20-30% of patients. When initial therapy does not work and rebleed occurs, this necessitates another operation and sometimes follow-up procedures that can be associated with complications and sometimes even death. Rebleeding is largely unpredictable, so if effective and priced appropriately, EG-1964 would be given to nearly all chronic SDH patients at their initial procedure. Market research conducted with 18 top neurosurgeons from academic centers in the U.S. and Canada revealed a significant interest in the use of EG-1964 for preventing recurrent chronic SDH.
